Flower Power : Photosynthesis Car Uses Sun + Plant Power

June 30, 2010

Solar-powered cars are becoming more and more common with every passing year, but this idea takes sun power a step further. It’s powered by photosynthesis, the process that plants use to convert sunlight into food. As far as looks go, the Photosynthesis Car from designers Michal Vicek and Klavir is more than enough to appeal to green design enthusiasts.

Unfortunately, the designers don’t exactly go into detail about how the propulsion system would actually work. But the plastic body houses a gorgeous array of plants which would make it a joy to drive in. It seems like the air inside the car would be nice and fresh thanks to all of those living green plants.

Even if the mechanism isn’t totally clear, the idea is an interesting one. What if we could simply harvest natural processes to power all of the things we want to do, but in a clean and natural way? As a jumping-off point for greener design concepts, this strange car seems like a winner.
